How do I get a Library Card?
To obtain a library card, you must apply at the circulation
desk in the library. You must bring identification with you with your
current address on it. If you are under 18, you must have your parents sign
that they will be responsible for lost or damaged books.
If you live outside the Nevada city limits, there is a $25.00 fee
for your card, unless you own property inside the city limits that you pay
taxes on. This fee covers all in your family for one year. The fee is
charged to those in the County because the people in the city of Nevada
support the library with their property tax. A few years ago, there was an
entry on the ballot to make this a county library. The county chose not to
do so. In order to make it fair and help cover the constantly growing
costs, the board decided to charge a fee for those who do not support the
library with their taxes. It is a common practice throughout the country.
Someday, we’d love to have this be the Vernon County Library, where all
contributed. It could be even bigger and better if we all pulled together!
