How do I get a Library Card?

To obtain a library card, you must apply at the circulation desk in the library.  You must bring a photo ID with you and a current bill or letter with your current address on it.  If you are under 18, your parent will need to be with you to fill out and sign paperwork stating that they will be responsible for lost or damaged books.

If you live outside the Nevada city limits, there is a $25.00/year fee for your card, unless you own property inside the city limits that you pay taxes on.  (Please bring your tax payment document for the current year with you.)  This fee covers all members in your family for one full year.  The fee is charged to those living in the County because the residents within the city limits of Nevada support the library with their property taxes.

A few years ago, there was an entry on the ballot to make this a County library.  The residents of the County chose not to do so.  Therefore, in order to help make it fair and cover the constantly growing costs, the Board decided to charge a small fee for those who do not support the library with their tax dollars.  It is a common practice throughout the Country.  Someday, we’d love to have this be the Vernon County Library, where all residents contribute.  Then the library could be even bigger and better if we all shared together
